Driven by the vision of establishing a thriving business, Vijay Sankeshwar procured a truck through borrowed funds. While the prospect of expanding a business from just one truck may appear daunting to many, Sankeshwar turned this challenge into a reality. Commencing his enterprise in 1976 with a solitary truck, he now oversees a fleet of approximately 5700 vehicles.
Although Vijay’s family was involved in a publishing business, his aspiration lay in the realm of transportation. Opting to pursue his dream, he faced considerable resistance from his family, who disapproved of his decision to diverge from their established business.
Undeterred by familial opposition, Vijay persevered, witnessing the gradual growth of his transport business. Initially named Vijayanand Travels, the enterprise later evolved into VRL Logistics. Today, Vijay Sankeshwar stands among the wealthiest individuals in India.
Over the last five years, Sankeshwar’s company has exhibited a remarkable 115 percent return on the stock market. With a market capitalization of Rs 6142 crore, the company has become a formidable player in the industry. Hailing from Dharwad in Karnataka, Vijay, a commerce graduate, also owned a newspaper, subsequently acquired by TOI.
Acknowledging his outstanding contributions, Vijay Sankeshwar was honored with the prestigious Padma Shri award.
