As the Munneru River crosses the danger mark, residents in low-lying areas of Khammam are particularly at risk. If the water level continues to rise and reaches 24 feet, the irrigation department will issue a second warning, increasing the urgency of the situation.

Khammam district officials acted swiftly in response to the fresh flood alert in Telangana. The District Collector issued orders to close roads in all flood-affected areas to prevent any accidents. Additionally, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka rushed to Khammam on Saturday night to visit relief camps and ensure that people are safe. He held a meeting with district officials, instructing them to ensure that no one faces hardships during this critical time.
The Deputy CM was joined by the Khammam District Collector and Superintendent of Police, who visited flood-affected colonies and issued further warnings to the public. The focus of their efforts was to ensure the smooth relocation of residents and prevent any further damage.
Ongoing Flood Threat in Khammam District
Several colonies along the banks of the Munneru River, including Danvaigudem, Ramanapet, Bokkalagadda, Prakash Nagar, Moti Nagar, and Venkateshwar Nagar, are facing a potential flood threat. Residents in these areas were advised to relocate to nearby relief camps as a safety measure. The authorities fear that the current inflows into the Munneru River will cause further flooding in these colonies.
Last week, these same colonies suffered heavy losses when the floods of September 1 struck. Homes were damaged, and infrastructure was severely impacted. This fresh flood alert in Telangana is a stark reminder of the ongoing challenges faced by the people living near the riverbanks.
Heavy Rains Across Telangana

In Mahabubabad district, low-lying areas were placed on alert due to the heavy downpours in the Garla and Bayyaram mandals. A low-level bridge across the Aleru stream in Nellikuduru mandal was completely flooded, adding to the challenges faced by the local population. Both the Mahabubabad Collector and the Municipal Commissioner were directed to take measures to protect people and ensure their safety.
Rainfall Measurements in Key Areas
On Saturday night, several areas recorded significant rainfall. In Mahabubabad district, the town received 18.25 centimeters of rainfall, while Tallada in Khammam district recorded 12.15 centimeters. Additionally, Maddukuru in Bhadradri Kothagudem district saw 9.23 centimeters of rainfall. This heavy downpour further complicated the flood situation in the region.
Devastation from Previous Floods
The fresh flood alert in Telangana comes just one week after heavy rains and flooding caused significant destruction across Khammam, Mahabubabad, and neighboring districts. The devastation left behind by the previous floods claimed 26 lives and resulted in widespread damage to homes, crops, roads, bridges, railway tracks, electrical installations, and irrigation tanks. While the recovery efforts from the last flood are still ongoing, the threat of another round of flooding has placed immense strain on local authorities and residents.
