GHMC Warns Malls on Parking Fees
GHMC Commissioner Warns Malls, Multiplexes Over Illegal Parking Fees
Hyderabad: On Thursday, August 1, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) commissioner, Amrapali Kata, issued a stern warning to malls and multiplexes in Hyderabad about charging parking fees when customers present a purchase receipt. The commissioner emphasized that strict action would be taken against establishments violating this regulation.
The warning came after GHMC received numerous complaints from the public about malls and multiplexes unlawfully collecting parking fees. In response, the GHMC deployed special inspection teams to investigate these complaints. During these inspections, it was discovered that several establishments were indeed charging customers for parking, despite the clear rule that no parking fees should be levied if a customer presents a valid purchase receipt.
One theatre, which was initially registered as a single-screen venue, was found operating multiple screens and still charging parking fees in violation of the purchase receipt rule. This highlighted a significant disregard for the regulations set by the GHMC, prompting further scrutiny and action.
In addition to the parking fee violations, the inspections also revealed concerns about the quality of food being served in several malls across Hyderabad. Reports indicated that the food quality was substandard, adding to the list of grievances against these establishments.
Following these findings, the GHMC promptly issued notices to the non-compliant malls and multiplexes, warning them to adhere to the regulations. The notices were a direct result of the commissioner’s directives to ensure that the rules regarding parking fees and food quality are strictly enforced.
Commissioner Amrapali Kata made it clear that the GHMC will not tolerate any violations of these rules. She stressed the importance of upholding customer rights and ensuring that establishments comply with the regulations set forth by the corporation. “We have received numerous complaints from citizens regarding unlawful parking fees and poor food quality in malls and multiplexes. Our inspection teams have confirmed these violations, and we will take strict action against those found guilty,” she stated.
The GHMC’s actions are part of a broader effort to improve the overall customer experience in Hyderabad’s commercial establishments. By addressing these issues, the GHMC aims to create a more customer-friendly environment and ensure that businesses operate within the legal framework.
The commissioner’s warning serves as a reminder to all commercial establishments in Hyderabad to adhere to the rules and regulations set by the GHMC. Malls and multiplexes are expected to comply with the purchase receipt rule and refrain from charging parking fees when customers present a valid purchase receipt. Additionally, they must ensure that the quality of food served meets the standards set by health authorities.
The GHMC has urged the public to report any instances of non-compliance they encounter. and this will help the corporation identify and address violations more effectively. Citizens can file complaints through the GHMC’s official channels, including their website and helpline numbers.
The response from the public has been largely positive, with many appreciating the GHMC’s proactive approach to addressing their concerns. “It’s good to see that the GHMC is taking these issues seriously. Charging for parking when you have already made a purchase is unfair, and the quality of food in some malls definitely needs improvement. Hopefully, this will lead to better standards overall,” said a local resident.
As the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) continues to monitor compliance, malls and multiplexes are advised to take immediate corrective measures to avoid penalties. The corporation’s commitment to enforcing these regulations underscores its dedication to protecting consumer rights and maintaining high standards in Hyderabad’s commercial spaces.
