Hyderabad summer El Nino

As Hyderabad grapples with the early onset of summer, residents are gearing up for what could be a sweltering season ahead. The city, known for its scorching temperatures, is expected to experience heightened heatwaves, driven by the looming threat of a strong El Nino phenomenon this year.

Despite temperatures hovering around 31-35 degrees Celsius recently, meteorologists predict a significant rise in the mercury levels, particularly from February 16 onwards. The early warmth gripping the city is attributed to the influence of El Nino, a climatic event known for its disruptive impact on global weather patterns.

Notably, on February 7, Mondamarket in Hyderabad recorded temperatures soaring beyond 38 degrees Celsius, signaling an early brush with summer. Similar instances of rising mercury levels have been observed in various pockets of the city, further indicating the onset of warmer days ahead.

Weather expert T. Balaji, renowned for his precise forecasts, foresees a steady rise in temperatures across Telangana, with the intensity of heatwaves expected to escalate in the coming months. Balaji also suggests that the presence of a robust El Nino system could exacerbate the severity of the summer season this year.

Looking beyond the summer, Balaji anticipates monsoon rainfall patterns reminiscent of those witnessed in 2019 and 2020, owing to the anticipated La Nina event. La Nina, characterized by cooler-than-normal ocean temperatures in the tropical Pacific, often follows El Nino, exerting its own influence on regional weather phenomena.

El Nino, characterized by abnormal warming of surface waters in the eastern tropical Pacific Ocean, can trigger sea surface temperatures to rise significantly, sometimes exceeding 4 to 5 degrees Celsius above normal levels. This climatic anomaly reverberates across the globe, impacting weather systems in diverse regions.

In contrast, La Nina’s emergence typically leads to the accumulation of cooler waters in the tropical Pacific, setting the stage for distinct weather patterns and climatic variations.

As Hyderabad braces for the summer months ahead, the convergence of El Nino and potential La Nina conditions underscores the need for heightened vigilance and preparedness among residents. With both phenomena exerting their influence on the summer and monsoon seasons, staying informed and adapting to evolving weather patterns remain crucial for residents of the bustling metropolis.
