Tokyo: On Monday, a 4.8-magnitude earthquake struck the Ibaraki prefecture in Japan, just northeast of Tokyo, as reported by the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA). The quake occurred at 10:07 a.m. local time and registered a 3 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7.
The earthquake’s epicenter was located off northern Ibaraki prefecture at a latitude of 36.8 degrees north and a longitude of 140.8 degrees east, with a depth of 90 km, according to Xinhua news agency. Tremors were felt in central Tokyo, but no tsunami warnings have been issued.
