Ola Electric Ordered to Pay ₹1.9 Lakh to Telangana Customer
Hyderabad: Ola Electric Mobility Private Limited has been directed by the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (DCDRC) in Sangareddy to pay ₹1,92,205 to a customer in Telangana. This order comes as a result of the customer receiving a “defective” e-scooter from the company.
The case centers around Maddi David, a resident of Zaheerabad, who encountered significant issues with his electric scooter. David purchased the e-scooter on July 3, 2023. Unfortunately, the scooter ceased functioning just a few days after the purchase, leading to the dispute.
Despite assurances from an Ola Electric executive that the scooter would be repaired or replaced promptly, David’s issues remained unresolved. This lack of resolution led David to escalate the matter to the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission.
The commission has instructed Ola Electric to make the payment within 30 days from July 23. The total amount of ₹1,92,205 includes a refund of ₹1,67,205, with an additional nine percent interest rate from the date of purchase. Furthermore, Ola Electric has been ordered to pay an extra ₹30,000 as compensation for the inconvenience caused.
This decision underscores the importance of consumer rights and the accountability of companies in addressing defective products and service failures. The ruling aims to provide relief to the affected customer and ensures that such issues are handled with the seriousness they deserve.
