Shock and grief spread across political circles in Uttar Pradesh after Prateek Yadav, the younger son of late Mulayam Singh Yadav, passed away suddenly at the age of 38 on Wednesday morning in Lucknow.
Prateek, known for maintaining a low public profile despite belonging to one of the country’s most prominent political families, reportedly fell ill during the early hours of the day and was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead.
He was the stepbrother of Akhilesh Yadav and husband of Aparna Yadav.
Declared Brought Dead At Hospital
According to hospital sources, Prateek was taken to a civil hospital in Lucknow around dawn after his condition suddenly deteriorated. Doctors confirmed that he had already passed away before reaching the medical facility.
Hospital officials stated that standard medical procedures were conducted before informing senior authorities and police officials. Doctors also clarified that the exact cause of death could only be determined after the postmortem examination.

A sombre-looking Akhilesh Yadav later reached the hospital where the autopsy was being conducted. Supporters of both the Samajwadi Party and the BJP gathered outside the family residence in Lucknow as police tightened security arrangements in the area.

Unlike many members of his political family, Prateek largely stayed away from active politics and public appearances. He was widely known as a fitness enthusiast and was active on social media, where he frequently shared workout videos and health-related content.
Prateek was also recognised for his love towards animals and his support for animal shelters and welfare activities.
Many supporters expressed disbelief over the sudden death, especially considering his active fitness-oriented lifestyle.

However, within days, the couple announced reconciliation. In a video shared online, Prateek confirmed that the matter had been resolved mutually and there was no ongoing dispute between them.
The development had attracted significant public attention due to the political prominence of the family.
Postmortem Conducted Amid Tight Security
Later in the day, Prateek’s body was shifted to King George’s Medical University for postmortem examination by a panel of doctors.
Police deployed additional personnel around the hospital and the Yadav family residence on Vikramaditya Marg to manage crowds and maintain law and order as supporters and well-wishers continued arriving.
The final rites are expected to be conducted in the presence of family members, political leaders, and supporters.
