Revanth Reddy Appeals to Sonia Gandhi

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy met Congress Parliamentary Party Chairperson Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi, urging her to consider contesting the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Telangana. During the meeting, Revanth Reddy, also the state party chief, highlighted that the state unit had unanimously passed a resolution supporting her candidacy, emphasizing the people’s respect for her as a motherly figure in the creation of Telangana.

Gandhi responded to the request by stating that she would make a decision at the appropriate time. The Chief Minister, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Minister Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy, held discussions with Gandhi at her 10 Janpath residence. Revanth Reddy briefed her on the state government’s progress in implementing various guarantees, including free bus travel for women in RTC buses and an increase in Rajiv Arogyasri coverage from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 15 lakh.

The Chief Minister informed Gandhi about the initiation of two additional guarantees – providing LPG gas cylinders for Rs. 500 and offering 200 units of free electricity per month to households. The government’s decision to conduct a BC caste census was also communicated to her.

Revanth Reddy assured Gandhi of the party’s dedicated efforts to secure the maximum number of Lok Sabha seats from the state, with preparations already completed. He explained that the party had received applications for tickets from aspirants in all constituencies, and after a thorough scrutiny, strong candidates would be fielded.

Earlier, Revanth Reddy participated in Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Ranchi, where he briefed Rahul Gandhi on the implementation of guarantees and requested him to persuade Sonia Gandhi to contest for Parliament from Telangana. The Chief Minister also provided an overview of the party’s preparations for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
