In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, the Telangana Police arrested five inter-state drug peddlers and seized a substantial 803 kg of Ganja from their possession. This major operation, carried out by the Special Operations Team (SOT) of Balanagar in coordination with the Shamshabad police, resulted in the confiscation of not only the illegal substance but also a DCM container with chemical drums, a car, and seven cell phones, all valued at approximately Rs 2,94,75,000.

The arrest took place on Saturday when the police, acting on credible information, intercepted the suspects while they were transporting Ganja from Odisha to Maharashtra via Telangana. The apprehension occurred on the Outer Ring Road near Pedda Golkonda, as per a police statement released on Sunday.

Among the arrested individuals is Somanatha Khara from Malkangiri District, Odisha, who works under the primary supplier, Ramu, from Dumbriguda, Araku, Andhra Pradesh. Khara had made a deal with Sanjeev Vittal Reddy and Sanjeev Kumar Hollappa from Basavakalyan, Bidar District, Karnataka, to transport the Ganja in a DCM container. Sanjeev Reddy, who owns the container, and Hollappa, who is also a driver, were accustomed to transporting various goods across state lines.

The operation unfolded as follows: On August 1, Sanjeev Reddy loaded chemical solvents from Alaveera Animal Health Limited, located in JNPC SEZ Parawada, Vizag. Concurrently, Somanatha Khara, along with his associates Jaga Suna and Sunil Khosla, hired a rented car and traveled to the Gotlam area of Vizianagaram. Here, they delivered 26 gunny bags of dry Ganja to Sanjeev Reddy. Reddy then concealed these bags under solvent drums in the DCM container. For added security, Khara and his friends piloted the container in their Ertiga car to ensure a safe journey.

The group employed several tactics to evade detection, such as removing the number plates of their vehicles before approaching toll gates to avoid CCTV cameras. They utilized the Fast Tags of their vehicles to pass through toll gates and would reattach the number plates after each toll gate.

However, their meticulous planning was foiled when the SOT Cyberabad, Balanagar team, and Shamshabad police intercepted them near the Pedda Golconda ORR Junction. The successful apprehension of these individuals marks a significant victory in the fight against drug trafficking in the region.
