The deceased has been identified as Suresh Patnaala (44), a marine engineer from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh. According to officials at Andhra Pradesh Bhavan, Suresh was serving as the Chief Engineer onboard the merchant vessel MT Settebello, which came under attack off the Oman coast.

Arja Srikanth confirmed that Suresh was among the three Indian crew members who lost their lives in the incident. The vessel reportedly had 24 Indian crew members onboard, out of whom 21 were rescued safely by Omani authorities after the attack.

Family Grieves As Anniversary Nears

Suresh’s death has left his family shattered. His widow, Bhargavi, said he had been eagerly looking forward to celebrating their 15th wedding anniversary on June 24.

Family members described him as a dedicated professional who spent years working at sea to support his loved ones. The tragic loss has shocked relatives and the local community in Visakhapatnam.

What Happened Off The Oman Coast?

According to reports, the Palau-flagged oil tanker MT Settebello was struck by US forces near the coast of Oman after allegations that the vessel violated an ongoing maritime blockade linked to Iranian oil transport. The incident reportedly caused severe damage to the ship and led to casualties among the crew.

India has reportedly expressed concern over the incident, and officials are coordinating efforts to bring back the mortal remains of the deceased sailors. Authorities are also assisting rescued crew members and their families.
