TSRTC Introduces Electric Buses Fleet
TSRTC Launches 70 Electric Buses in Karimnagar
On Sunday, September 29, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) launched 70 electric luxury buses in Karimnagar, making it the second district after Hyderabad to introduce these eco-friendly buses. The initiative is part of TSRTC’s larger plan to expand green transportation options across Telangana.
Out of the 70 new TSRTC electric buses, 35 have already arrived in Karimnagar, and 33 started their operations on Sunday itself. These buses are designed to provide both comfort and sustainability, making them a significant addition to Telangana’s public transport network.

Electric Bus Routes in Karimnagar
Initially, the TSRTC electric buses will operate on the route between Karimnagar and Jubilee Bus Stand (JBS) in Hyderabad. These buses will run on a Gross-Cost Contract (GCS) system, ensuring that the operations remain financially sustainable while promoting eco-friendly transport.
To support the growing fleet, the Karimnagar-2 RTC depot has been equipped with 14 charging stations and a new dedicated 11KV power line to ensure smooth operations of these electric buses. Two buses have also been kept on standby for emergency or additional services.

Connecting Karimnagar to Key Districts
Besides the Hyderabad route, the TSRTC electric buses will also connect passengers to other key districts in Telangana. The breakdown of the bus allocation includes:
- 9 buses for Godavarikhani
- 6 buses for Kamareddy
- 6 buses for Jagtial
- 6 buses for Sircilla
- 4 buses for Manthani
These new routes are expected to make travel easier and more efficient for residents of Karimnagar and the surrounding regions, while reducing the carbon footprint of intercity travel.
New Metro Deluxe Buses in Hyderabad
Apart from the electric bus launch in Karimnagar, TSRTC has also expanded its fleet in Hyderabad with additional Metro Deluxe buses. These buses will join the existing fleet of 55 Metro Deluxe buses already serving the city.
The new buses will operate on key routes, including Uppal, Mehidipatnam, Secunderabad, ECIL, Jagadgirigutta, and LB Nagar. These Metro Deluxe buses aim to offer comfortable transportation to daily commuters in Hyderabad, enhancing the overall public transport experience.
Eco-Friendly Initiatives by TSRTC
The introduction of TSRTC electric buses is a part of Telangana’s ongoing efforts to promote green and sustainable transportation. By incorporating electric buses into their fleet, TSRTC is not only providing better service to passengers but also contributing to reducing pollution in the state.
The use of electric buses aligns with the government’s goals to reduce carbon emissions and provide environmentally friendly public transportation. With more electric buses planned for the future, TSRTC is setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
