TSRTC Men-Only Bus Service Introduce in Hyderabad to Ease College Commutes

Hyderabad, February 1 – In response to the increasing demand for efficient transportation to engineering colleges, the Telangana Road and Transport Services (TSRTC) has introduced an exclusive bus service for men on the Ibrahimpatnam-LB Nagar route. The decision aims to address the heavy traffic of college students during rush hours.

A TSRTC official informed Siasat.com that the men-exclusive service was launched due to the concentration of engineering colleges along the specified route. Currently, a single bus operates between LB Nagar and Ibrahimpatnam, with the service tailored to meet the commuting needs of engineering college students. The bus departs at 8:30 am and returns at 4:30 pm daily.

The initiative was prompted by a noticeable surge in women passengers using TSRTC buses following the implementation of the free bus ride scheme by the Congress government. The Mahalaxmi Scheme, fulfilling a poll promise, provides free bus rides for women on specified buses across the state.

Recent findings from a survey conducted by the Helping Hand Foundation, a city-based NGO, revealed a 31% increase in the number of women utilizing TSRTC buses for daily commutes in Hyderabad. The percentage of women passengers rose from 52% to 81% after the initiation of the Mahalakshmi scheme. The survey, involving 3,530 women from various health institutions in the city, highlighted that nearly half of the increased bus travel was attributed to medical purposes, including outpatient consultations and antenatal care.
