Rats infestation in Hyderabad food stalls
The Hyderabad task force recently uncovered disturbing conditions at Shyam Singh Chat Bhandar, a popular eatery in Begum Bazar, during a food safety raid. The operation, conducted by Telangana’s food safety department, revealed a severe rat infestation and multiple violations of hygiene and food safety standards at this bustling chat shop.
The raid unearthed live rats in the vicinity where food was being prepared, raising serious concerns about sanitary practices at the establishment. The task force’s inspection also brought to light several other significant issues, including improper food handling and inadequate facility maintenance.
Among the violations, the task force found that Shyam Singh Chat Bhandar was using synthetic food colors in the preparation of masala water for Pani Puri. This practice is not only a health risk but also violates food safety regulations. The synthetic colors were promptly confiscated and disposed of to prevent any further contamination.
Additionally, the eatery was found to be using an FSSAI registration certificate when it should have been operating under a state license due to its high volume of sales. This discrepancy indicates non-compliance with regulatory requirements and could potentially lead to further legal actions.
The condition of the food storage and handling at the chat bhandar was equally alarming. Items like curd and noodles were found refrigerated without proper covering or labeling, posing a risk of contamination and spoilage. Food handlers at the establishment were seen working without essential protective gear such as hairnets, gloves, and aprons, increasing the risk of cross-contamination.
The facility’s physical state was also found lacking. The premises were inadequately fitted with mesh and doors, allowing pests to enter freely. Dustbins were observed to be open without lids, and houseflies were seen hovering inside the premises, further exacerbating the unhygienic conditions.
The Hyderabad task force’s findings highlight the critical need for stringent adherence to food safety regulations and proper maintenance of food establishments. The raid at Shyam Singh Chat Bhandar serves as a stark reminder of the importance of maintaining high standards in food handling and facility cleanliness to ensure public health and safety.
