Shia women access Ibadat Khana

Hyderabad: In a significant ruling, the High Court of Telangana has granted Akhbari Shia women the right to access the Ibadat Khana in Darulshifa, Hyderabad, to conduct Majlis, Jashans, and other religious prayers. This decision follows a landmark judgment delivered by the court on December 11, 2023, which referenced the Supreme Court’s 2018 Sabarimala case.

The interim order issued by the court permits Akhbari Shia women to enter the Ibadat Khana for religious activities. This decision came after the mutawalli committee of the Ibadat Khana in Hyderabad filed an appeal against the order. The court highlighted that Usooli Shia women were already allowed to pray at the mosque by the waqf board, thereby pointing out the discriminatory practice against Akhbari Shia women.

With this ruling, all Shia women now have the right to access Hyderabad’s Ibadat Khana for Majlis, Jashans, and other religious prayers, ensuring equality and non-discrimination within the community.
