New Cable Bridge in Hyderabad
Hyderabad is set to witness the construction of its second iconic cable-stayed bridge, an engineering marvel poised to enhance the city’s infrastructure and aesthetic appeal. This new bridge will span 2.65 kilometers across the historic Mir Alam Tank in Bahadurpura, connecting Chinthalmet Road with the Hyderabad-Bengaluru national highway.
Project Overview:
The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has begun preparing proposals for this ambitious project, which is estimated to cost Rs 363 crore. The bridge will feature a four-lane high-level design, ensuring it can handle significant traffic flow while providing a picturesque view of the surroundings.
Key Features:
- Length and Structure: The main span of the bridge will be 2.21 kilometers long. Entry ramps on either side of the tank will be 205 meters and 140 meters, with an exit ramp of 110 meters.
- Design: The bridge will be a cable-stayed structure, known for its strength and durability, as well as its visually striking appearance. This type of bridge uses cables suspended from one or more towers to support the bridge deck.
- Connectivity: This new structure will significantly improve connectivity between different parts of the city, facilitating smoother travel between Chinthalmet Road and the Hyderabad-Bengaluru highway.
Additional Developments:
Alongside the bridge construction, the project includes the beautification of the Mir Alam Tank lakefront. This effort aims to enhance the area’s appeal, making it a prime spot for both residents and tourists. The development will incorporate modern tourism infrastructure and facilities, executed through a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Significance:
The upcoming bridge is not just an infrastructural addition; it symbolizes Hyderabad’s growth and modernization. By providing a crucial link between key parts of the city and improving the aesthetic appeal of the Mir Alam Tank area, the bridge is expected to become a new landmark, much like the city’s first iconic cable-stayed bridge over Durgam Cheruvu.
This project underscores the commitment of the state government and HMDA to enhance urban mobility and contribute to the city’s development.
