Dengue Cases in Telangana: Latest Update
Hyderabad: Telangana’s Health Minister, Damodar Raja  Narasimha, confirmed that the state has recorded 4,459 dengue cases so far, with a positivity rate of 7.01%. The minister made this announcement on Saturday, August 24, in response to recent allegations by  senior Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader and  former health minister Harish Rao, who claimed that five dengue-related deaths had occurred in the state within a single day this week.

Clarification on Alleged Dengue Deaths
The health minister refuted the allegations, stating that there have been no deaths directly attributed to dengue in Telangana. He emphasized that the cases reported as dengue deaths from various districts, including Hanamkonda, Nagarkurnool, Rangareddy, Kamareddy, and Siddipet, were not due to dengue fever. The minister provided details on the deaths, noting that the causes varied from Meningoencephalitis, acute febrile illness, atypical viral pneumonia, congenital heart complications, cerebral vascular accidents, viral encephalitis, and seizures, rather than dengue.

Breakdown of Reported Cases
Narasimha shared that a 21-year-old male from Kamareddy district died due to Meningoencephalitis, while in Suryapet, three people died from acute febrile illness. In Mahbubabad, a 33-year-old succumbed to atypical viral pneumonia, and a four-year-old passed away due to complications from a congenital heart problem. In Siddipet, a senior citizen died from a cerebral vascular accident, while in Nagarkurnool, a 21-year-old woman died from viral encephalitis. Additionally, in Rangareddy, a 12-year-old died from seizures, and in Hanamkonda, a 21-year-old passed away due to viral fever.

Proactive Measures to Combat Dengue
The health minister reassured the public that the state government is taking all necessary measures to combat the spread of dengue. He mentioned that over 63,532 samples have been collected for testing, and all healthcare centers and testing labs in the state are equipped with adequate medicines, testing kits, and other essential logistics. The health department has also launched a comprehensive door-to-door survey to identify and address potential dengue cases, which has been ongoing since July.

The minister highlighted that these proactive measures are being carried out to prevent any further spread of the disease.

Monitoring and Evaluation by Officials
To ensure that all measures are effectively implemented, senior officials, including commissioners and directors, visited various districts between August 15 and August 17 to assess the dengue situation on the ground. The district collectors and additional collectors closely monitored 132 healthcare facilities, including government hospitals, area hospitals, community health centers, primary health centers, and urban primary health centers. The health minister reiterated the government’s commitment to controlling the spread of dengue and ensuring the well-being of the state’s residents.
