7 Killed in Agra-Lucknow Collision

In a tragic incident on Sunday, a collision between a double-decker bus and a car on the Agra Lucknow Expressway resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and left 25 others injured. The accident occurred in the early hours in Uttar Pradesh’s Etawah district, casting a pall of gloom over the affected families and communities.

The double-decker bus was en route from Raebareli to Delhi when it collided with a car, causing the bus to lose control and tumble off the expressway. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) of Etawah, Sanjay Kumar Verma, reported that the accident occurred around 12:30 a.m. The bus, carrying 60 passengers, collided with the car, leading to immediate fatalities and multiple injuries. Among the deceased were four bus passengers and three occupants of the car.

SSP Verma stated, “A double-decker bus from Raebareli to Delhi collided with a car. Out of the 60 people on the bus, four died on the spot, and approximately 20-25 people sustained injuries and have been admitted to the hospital. Unfortunately, all three individuals in the car also perished, bringing the total death toll to seven.”

One of the injured passengers is reported to be in critical condition. Efforts are being made to ensure that all the injured receive prompt medical attention and that the remaining passengers reach their destinations safely. The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) and have launched an investigation to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Preliminary reports suggest that the driver of the car may have fallen asleep at the wheel, causing the vehicle to veer out of control and enter the wrong lane. This misstep led to the collision with the bus coming from Lucknow. The impact of the collision sent the double-decker bus careening into a roadside ditch, exacerbating the severity of the accident.

Local residents were the first to arrive at the scene and quickly alerted the police. They played a crucial role in rescuing the injured passengers from the wreckage of the bus. The swift response by the locals helped in minimizing further casualties and ensured that the injured received immediate assistance.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and directed officials to expedite relief and rescue operations for the injured. He emphasized the need for swift medical attention for the injured and assured that the government would provide all necessary support to the victims and their families during this difficult time.

The Agra Lucknow Expressway, known for its high-speed traffic, has witnessed several accidents in the past, raising concerns about road safety measures. This latest incident underscores the urgent need for enhanced safety protocols and stricter enforcement of traffic regulations to prevent such tragic occurrences.

The investigation into the accident will focus on multiple aspects, including the possibility of driver fatigue, vehicle condition, and adherence to traffic norms. The authorities aim to ascertain the exact sequence of events that led to the collision and will take appropriate action based on their findings.

The tragic loss of lives and the injuries sustained in this accident serve as a grim reminder of the perils of road travel and the importance of maintaining vigilance and safety on highways. As the investigation progresses, it is hoped that the findings will contribute to improving road safety measures and preventing similar accidents in the future.

In the meantime, the families of the victims and the injured are in the thoughts and prayers of many. The community’s response and the swift action by the local authorities highlight the collective effort to address such tragedies and support those affected. As the state mourns the loss of lives, it also rallies together to ensure that those injured receive the care and support they need to recover from this devastating incident.
