Speculation During Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra
During Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyaya Yatra in Bihar, there were discussions about the possible involvement of Nitish Kumar in the journey. However, JD(U) has now unequivocally rejected any such participation. Analyzing Nitish’s behavior, it is suggested that he might switch sides soon.
Nitish Kumar’s Shifting Alliances
Nitish Kumar, the Chief Minister of Bihar, has changed alliances multiple times in the past. Earlier in 2013, JD(U) severed ties with BJP and formed an alliance with RJD and Congress. In 2017, JD(U) renewed its association with BJP in the NDA, jointly contesting the 2019 Lok Sabha elections and the 2020 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. In August 2022, Nitish Kumar broke ties with the NDA led by BJP to become the Chief Minister and formed an alliance with the Mahagathbandhan.
JD(U)’s Role in India Alliance
JD(U)’s national spokesperson, K C Tyagi, emphasized that our leaders have played a pivotal role in forming the India alliance, and discontent is growing among the allied parties due to the seat-sharing issue. Meanwhile, BJP has approached several leaders, including state president Samrat Choudhary, in connection with this entire political episode.
Efforts to Mitigate Damage and Break JD(U)
RJD and Congress are actively trying to persuade Nitish. On Thursday, RJD supremo Lalu Prasad reached out to Nitish. They are also working to garner support to form an RJD government. In Bihar, the magical figure for a majority is 122. The combined tally of RJD, Congress, and Left parties is 114, falling eight short of the majority. Following Nitish’s firm stance, RJD has been in touch with dissident MLAs from both our party and JD(U).
