Rowdy-Sheeter Murder Sparks Fear in Shivamogga
Shivamogga: A rowdy-sheeter was brutally hacked to death in broad daylight in Karnataka’s Shivamogga city, raising fresh concerns over the return of gang violence in the Malnad region.
The victim, identified as Narasimha, was reportedly a rowdy-sheeter and alleged gambling operator from Govindapura Ashraya Colony. The attack occurred near Karidevara Keri in the first cross area of Gandhi Bazaar in Shivamogga city.
Police suspect the murder may be linked to long-running rivalry between criminal gangs operating in the district.
Brutal Daylight Attack
According to police sources, Narasimha was allegedly intercepted by a group of armed assailants who launched a violent attack using deadly weapons.
He reportedly suffered severe injuries to his head, hands and several parts of the body. Authorities said the assault was extremely brutal, with portions of his hands allegedly severed and serious facial injuries reported.
The accused reportedly fled immediately after the incident, leaving residents shocked and creating panic in the locality.
Police Begin Investigation
Police rushed to the crime scene soon after receiving information and shifted the body to the mortuary of Meggan Hospital for post-mortem examination.
A complaint regarding the murder has been filed at Kote Police Station by Narasimha’s wife, Sneha. In her complaint, she reportedly accused Anil alias Ambu and his associates of carrying out the murder due to long-standing enmity.
Additional Superintendent of Police Karyappa stated that three special investigation teams have been formed to trace and arrest the accused. Officials expressed confidence that the suspects would soon be taken into custody.
Police have also launched an intensive investigation, reviewing CCTV footage, collecting eyewitness accounts and examining forensic evidence to determine the exact sequence of events.
Old Gang Rivalries Under Scanner
Investigators suspect the killing may be connected to earlier gang-related violence in Shivamogga.
Police sources said rivalry between groups linked to Hundi Anni and Kada Karthik has existed for several years and has resulted in multiple violent incidents in the past.
Around two years ago, Hundi Anni was reportedly murdered, further intensifying tensions among rival gangs. Authorities suspect Narasimha, believed to have been close to Hundi Anni, had allegedly vowed revenge against Anil alias Ambu after earlier incidents.
Police believe fears of retaliation may have motivated the latest attack.
Criminal Background of the Victim
Narasimha was reportedly known to law enforcement agencies and had several criminal cases registered against him.
Police records allegedly included cases related to gambling, illegal activities, narcotics-related offences and even murder. His criminal history reportedly made him a familiar figure among local police personnel.
However, investigators are continuing to verify all aspects of the case and have not ruled out additional motives.
