BRS, Congress MLAs Face Political Turmoil
House Arrest Drama of BRS Leaders Continues
In an ongoing political saga, several BRS (Bharat Rashtra Samithi) MLAs, including Harish Rao, were placed under house arrest by the Hyderabad police. This action was taken to prevent further escalation of tensions between Huzurabad BRS MLA P Kaushik Reddy, Serilingampally MLA Arekapudi Gandhi (who recently defected to the Congress), and Siddipet MLA and former BRS minister Harish Rao. The latest chapter in this political melodrama unfolded when BRS MLC Shambhipur Raju announced that he, along with Kaushik Reddy, would visit Gandhi’s residence for a party meeting.

Harish Rao’s House Arrest Sparks Protests
Harish Rao was confined to his residence in Kokapet early in the morning. When BRS MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy and former MP Maloth Kavitha attempted to visit him, they were blocked by the police, who claimed that they required the police commissioner’s permission. Despite their attempts to explain that their visit was purely to check on Rao’s health after he injured his shoulder, the police remained unmoved. The situation escalated when the women leaders staged a protest, leading to their detention and removal to the police station.
When Harish Rao later tried to leave his residence to undergo an MRI at AIG Hospitals, the police initially blocked his path. However, they eventually escorted him to the hospital for his check-up.

Harish Rao Speaks Out Against Congress
From his residence, Harish Rao addressed the media, stating that the BRS was not treating the attack on Kaushik Reddy’s residence as an act orchestrated by Arekapudi Gandhi. However, he accused the Congress government of attempting to divert public attention from critical issues by creating such incidents.
“When we raised questions about the farm loan waiver, they attacked my office in Siddipet. When we asked about flood relief measures in Khammam, we were pelted with stones. Now, as the court takes serious note of defected MLAs, Kaushik’s residence has been attacked,” Harish Rao explained.
He questioned the state of law and order in Telangana, highlighting that BRS leaders had cooperated with the police during their arrests the previous night to avoid creating unnecessary problems. Rao also pointed out the hypocrisy of the Congress leadership, recalling how the chief minister reportedly used abusive language against the police when he was placed under house arrest during the BRS regime.
BRS Questions Police Bias
Harish Rao further questioned the police’s handling of the situation, expressing frustration that no cases had been filed against Congress workers who had pelted stones at him. He accused the police of providing preferential treatment to those responsible for attacking Kaushik Reddy’s residence while detaining BRS leaders without justification.
He appealed to the Director General of Police (DGP) and higher-ups in the police department to act fairly and impartially. “You can pelt as many stones as you like, but those stones will become the foundation stones for BRS’s return to power,” Rao confidently asserted.
Kaushik Reddy Arrested Amid Controversy
Kaushik Reddy, a key figure in this unfolding drama, attempted to go to Arekapudi Gandhi’s residence to hold a BRS meeting, as announced by his party. However, he was arrested by the police and confined to his residence.
Addressing the media, Kaushik Reddy clarified that his statements were not intended to offend the settlers from Andhra Pradesh who had come to Hyderabad for a livelihood. His criticism, he maintained, was solely directed at Arekapudi Gandhi.
Despite his controversial act of bringing a saree and bangles to a press conference earlier, Kaushik remained unapologetic. He asserted that the Congress leadership had stooped to his level, turning the situation into a battle between Revanth Reddy and Kaushik Reddy. He went as far as to claim that the Congress government was attempting to have him killed, but emphasized that he was ready to die for Telangana.

Gandhi’s Response to Kaushik Reddy’s Statements
On Friday morning, Arekapudi Gandhi was visited by MLA Danam Nagender, another defector from the BRS to the Congress. Nagender questioned why BRS leaders suddenly remembered Gandhi’s residence after years and pointed out that party meetings were typically held in offices, not homes.
Speaking to the media, Gandhi expressed respect for BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao (KCR) but blamed individuals like Kaushik Reddy for tarnishing the party’s image. He predicted that more MLAs would leave the BRS due to Reddy’s behavior and accused him of attempting to sow discord between Telugu-speaking communities.
Gandhi also criticized Kaushik Reddy’s statement about visiting his house to give him a BRS scarf, calling it an inappropriate act that only deepened the rift between the two parties.
