Hyderabad RRR Land Acquisition Finalized
The ambitious Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) project, a key infrastructure initiative for Telangana, is set to see significant progress with the completion of land acquisition expected by the second week of September. Telangana Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari emphasized the importance of this project during a high-level review meeting held at the State Secretariat. She underscored that the RRR project holds immense prestige for the state and urged all officials involved to prioritize the swift acquisition of the necessary land.
During the meeting, Santhi Kumari directed district Collectors from the regions involved to expedite the land acquisition process, which is currently in various stages of completion. Stressing the importance of fairness, she instructed the officials to ensure that farmers who are set to lose their lands to the RRR project receive fair and just compensation, reflecting the current market value.
In line with these directives, the Chief Secretary called for the formation of district-level committees specifically focused on land acquisition. These committees will be responsible for facilitating the process, addressing any concerns related to compensation, and ensuring that all legal matters are handled efficiently. Santhi Kumari highlighted the need for these committees to take a proactive approach in resolving court cases pertaining to land acquisition, urging for their swift and efficient disposal to avoid any delays in the project’s timeline.
The meeting was attended by several key officials, including Vikas Raj, Special Chief Secretary of Roads & Buildings; Srinivas Raj, Advisor to the Government; Navin Mittal, Principal Secretary of Revenue; Prashanti, Additional Secretary of Forest; Harichandana, Special Secretary of Roads & Buildings; Harish, Joint Secretary of Roads & Buildings, and the district Collectors of Rangareddy, Medak, Sangareddy, Yadadri Bhuvanagiri, and Siddipet. Their collective focus was on ensuring that the land acquisition for the RRR is completed without further delay.
The RRR project has been allocated Rs 1,525 crores in the Telangana State Budget for 2024-25. This significant financial commitment underscores the project’s importance to the state’s infrastructure development. The Regional Ring Road is designed to connect Hyderabad to various parts of Telangana, effectively enhancing connectivity and supporting economic growth.
The RRR will be split into two sections: the northern section, stretching from Sangareddy to Toopran, Gajwel, and Choutuppal, will cover a distance of 158.6 kilometers, while the southern section will span 189 kilometers from Choutuppal to Shadnagar and Sangareddy. The road is set to be constructed with expressway standards, initially as a four-lane highway, with plans to expand to eight lanes as traffic demands increase.
The strategic importance of the RRR cannot be overstated. The area between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the RRR is expected to become a hub for industries, services, and transport parks. According to initial estimates, the northern segment of the RRR will require an investment of Rs 13,522 crores, while the southern segment is projected to cost Rs 12,980 crores.
As the RRR project progresses, the Telangana government is keen on ensuring that all stakeholders, particularly the farmers affected by land acquisition, are treated fairly. The administration’s efforts are focused on completing the land acquisition efficiently, thus paving the way for the timely construction of the RRR, which is poised to be a cornerstone of Telangana’s future infrastructure.
