The second phase is expected to add an additional 46.4 kilometers to the existing network, bringing the total metro coverage in Hyderabad to 115.4 kilometers. This expansion is anticipated to increase daily ridership significantly, potentially accommodating an additional 800,000 passengers.
Hyderabad’s Metro Status Among Indian Cities
Hyderabad once boasted the second-largest metro network in India after Delhi but has since slipped to ninth place as cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, and Chennai have rapidly expanded their systems. The state government is keen to restore Hyderabad’s standing in metro transport, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy spearheading initiatives to enhance the city’s public transportation infrastructure.
As the project moves forward, residents—particularly those in the Old City—are eager for the transformative benefits of a comprehensive metro rail network. This development promises not only to improve daily commutes but also to contribute to the city’s overall sustainable growth
