Special status for Andhra Pradesh
New Delhi: YSR Congress parliamentary party leader V. Vijayasai Reddy expressed his expectation that the Central government will grant special category status to Andhra Pradesh. The Rajya Sabha member participated in the all-party meeting convened by the Centre ahead of Parliament’s budget session. In a post on X, Reddy stated, “I expect the Central Govt. to accord Special Category Status to AP in the budget that will be presented next week.”
Reddy further added, “I am sure that TDP will pull out of NDA if Special Category Status is not given. If there is no underhand dealing, then Special Category Status is here for AP.”
During the meeting, Reddy raised concerns about the breakdown of law and order in Andhra Pradesh and the oppression of society by a single caste, among other issues. He also indicated that the YSRCP would expose the TDP’s political strategies during the Parliament session.
The TDP, with 16 Lok Sabha members, plays a crucial role in the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. TDP President and Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu recently commented that the state’s economy has deteriorated beyond the stage where even special category status could provide a solution.
