Telangana loan waiver

Hyderabad: Rural areas across Telangana were filled with celebrations on Thursday as Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy formally launched the scheme to waive crop loans of up to Rs. 2 lakh. At 4 pm, the Chief Minister transferred over Rs. 6,000 crore to the bank accounts of more than 11.5 lakh farmers, clearing their crop loans up to Rs. 1 lakh each. The announcement sparked widespread jubilation among farmers, who celebrated by bursting crackers and distributing sweets in villages and mandals. In a display of gratitude, they performed ‘ksheera abhishekam’ (anointing with milk) to portraits of Revanth Reddy, contrasting the previous BRS government’s phased loan waiver implementation over five years.

Farmers recalled the ineffective loan waiver implementation by the BRS government, which resulted in significant debt burdens. The phased release of funds by the BRS government was insufficient to cover even the interest, forcing farmers to bear the principal amount. On this momentous occasion, farmers gathered at Rythu Vedikas across the state to celebrate. Ministers, Congress MLAs, MLCs, MPs, and party leaders joined in the festivities in their respective districts and constituencies.

Through video conferencing from Rythu Vedikas, farmers expressed their gratitude directly to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy. They assured him of their unwavering support and appreciation for waiving their loans within seven months of the Congress government coming to power. A total of 11,50,193 farmers benefited from the loan waiver, amounting to Rs. 6,098.93 crore. Nalgonda district had the highest number of beneficiaries, with 83,124 farmers receiving Rs. 454.49 crore. Andhole Assembly constituency saw the highest individual constituency benefit, with about 20,216 farmers receiving Rs. 107.83 crore.
