Telangana Musi River funding

Telangana Requests Rs. 10,000 Crore from Centre for Musi River and Reservoir Projects

Hyderabad: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, has met with Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil in New Delhi to seek significant financial support for crucial water projects. The State government has requested Rs. 10,000 crore for the Musi River project and for filling Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs with water from the River Godavari.

During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the urgent need for the Musi Riverfront Development project, emphasizing the necessity to ensure that only treated water flows into the river to address the current pollution issues. He appealed for Rs. 4,000 crore under the National River Conservation Plan for this initiative.

Additionally, the Chief Minister sought Rs. 6,000 crore to facilitate the transfer of River Godavari water to Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar, aiming to alleviate potential drinking water shortages in Hyderabad. He also reminded the Union Minister that Telangana did not receive any funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019.

Addressing another critical issue, CM Revanth Reddy mentioned that 7.85 lakh households in the State lack tap water connections. To address this gap and ensure tap water availability for both urban and rural areas under the PMAY program, the State requires Rs. 16,100 crore.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister also met Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri to discuss the State Government’s initiative of providing Rs. 500 LPG cylinders to households. He requested the facilitation of advance subsidy disbursements to consumers by oil companies.
