Revanth Reddy announced that the government of Telangana will establish a Sports University in the next academic year. The proposed Sports University, named Young India Sports University, will feature a curriculum designed to meet international standards. Inspiration from South Korea’s National Sports University
Chief Minister Reddy drew inspiration from his recent visit to South Korea, where he toured the Korean National Sports University in Seoul. This prestigious institution has a proven track record of producing Olympic medal-winning athletes. Impressed by their success, the Telangana government has signed an agreement with the South Korean Sports University to collaborate on establishing a similar institution in Hyderabad.

During his speech, CM Reddy revealed the state’s ambitious plans to host the 2036 Summer Olympics. He stated that Telangana has already approached the central government with a request to consider Hyderabad as a potential host city. The Chief Minister also vowed to restore the Gachibowli sports village to its former glory. Once a premier sports facility, the village hosted the Afro-Asian Games in 2000 and the World Military Games, showcasing Telangana’s capability to host major international sporting events. Reddy emphasized that the Congress government, upon coming to power, has made the promotion of sports a top priority, initiating several measures to revive and enhance the state’s sports infrastructure.

Support for Telangana’s Sports Heroes
As part of the government’s efforts to recognize and reward outstanding sports talent, the state Cabinet has decided to provide a Group I post to international cricketer Mohammed Siraj. Additionally, the Cabinet announced a reward of Rs 2 crore and a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) cadre post for boxing champion Nikhat Zareen. These rewards are part of the government’s broader strategy to encourage young athletes and build a culture of excellence in sports.
