Akshay Kumar box office flops
Mumbai: Akshay Kumar, once celebrated as the ‘Khiladi of Bollywood,’ has experienced a significant downturn in his box office success. Known for his action-packed roles and versatility in comedy, drama, and socially relevant films, Akshay built a reputation as one of Bollywood’s top stars. However, post-pandemic, he has delivered his 13th consecutive flop with the movie “Sarfira.”
The Unexpected Downfall
After the pandemic, Akshay’s box office magic began to wane. “Sarfira” is the latest in a string of flops, joining “Bell Bottom,” “Laxmmi,” “Cuttputtli,” “Atrangi Re,” “Bachchan Paanday,” “Samrat Prithviraj,” “Raksha Bandhan,” “Ram Setu,” “Selfiee,” “Mission Ranigunj,” and “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan.” Collectively, these movies have lost more than Rs 1000 crore, with “Bade Miyan Chote Miyan” alone losing Rs 250 crore and “Samrat Prithviraj” Rs 150 crore.
Industry insiders attribute this decline to several factors. Akshay’s rapid movie production pace, possibly driven by his large fees, appears to lack the necessary effort and passion. Critics have noted a lack of energy in his performances, leading to a disconnect with audiences. Additionally, his open political affiliations may have alienated some fans.
Sarfira: The Latest Flop
“Sarfira” grossed only Rs 2.25 crore on its first day, a disappointing figure for a star of Akshay’s stature. This raises questions about his current standing in the industry.
Despite these setbacks, Akshay is not giving up. He is set to release a new movie, “Khel Khel Mein,” a remake of the Spanish film already adapted in Malayalam as “12th Man,” starring Mohan Lal. Promotions will start soon, with the release scheduled for August 15.
