BJP MP Anurag Thakur Criticizes Gandhi Family for ‘False’ Poll Promises
Unmet Promises from the Congress Party
On Thursday, October 3, BJP MP Anurag Thakur launched a strong critique against the Gandhi family, accusing them of staying silent on Congress’s unfulfilled election promises in Himachal Pradesh. According to Thakur, key promises made by Congress two years ago—such as financial allowances for women, fair wages for farmers, and jobs for the youth—remain unfulfilled, leaving the people of Himachal Pradesh in a state of discontent. Despite these unmet promises, Thakur alleged that Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have not acknowledged or spoken about the growing frustrations of the state’s people.
Financial Aid for Women: A Broken Promise?
One of the most highlighted grievances in Thakur’s statement revolves around the promise made by Congress to the women of Himachal Pradesh. He pointed out that Himachal’s mothers and sisters are still waiting for the Rs 1500 per month allowance that was promised during the previous elections. The financial assistance was positioned as a welfare measure aimed at providing relief to women, particularly in rural areas. However, as of today, no such allowance has been implemented, according to Thakur.
The unmet financial aid for women continues to be a significant source of discontent. Women, who make up a substantial part of the voting population, are now questioning Congress’s sincerity in following through on its promises. For the BJP, this presents an opportunity to target Congress’s credibility in the upcoming elections.

Farmers Still Awaiting Promised Benefits
Another key promise Thakur addressed was regarding the welfare of Himachal’s farmers. Congress had pledged to purchase cow dung at Rs 2 per kg and milk at Rs 80-100 per liter—terms that appealed to the agricultural community. These promises were designed to improve the income of farmers, many of whom rely heavily on dairy and cattle farming. However, Thakur asserted that neither of these commitments has materialized, leaving farmers in financial distress. The BJP MP’s remarks suggest that the agricultural sector in Himachal Pradesh feels betrayed by the lack of action on these promises, a sentiment the opposition may seek to exploit.
Youth Unemployment and Energy Issues
Thakur also shed light on the high unemployment rate among the youth in Himachal Pradesh. Congress, according to Thakur, had promised to generate 5 lakh jobs within the state, but the BJP leader argued that there is little evidence of this commitment being fulfilled. The failure to create jobs has left many young people frustrated and unable to find employment, fueling dissatisfaction toward the ruling party.
In addition to job creation, Thakur criticized Congress for failing to deliver on its promise of providing 300 units of free electricity to households. For many families in Himachal Pradesh, this pledge represented a chance for significant financial relief, as high electricity bills are a major concern, particularly in rural and low-income households. However, as per Thakur, this promise also remains unfulfilled, adding to the list of grievances held by the state’s residents.
Gandhi Family’s Silence on Himachal’s Issues
Throughout his statement, Thakur repeatedly questioned why Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra have remained silent on the issues plaguing Himachal Pradesh. Despite numerous complaints from citizens and ongoing dissatisfaction with the Congress government, Thakur claimed that the Gandhi family has not addressed or even acknowledged the growing unrest in the state. The lack of communication, Thakur argued, shows a disregard for the welfare of Himachal’s people, further eroding the Congress’s credibility.
Priyanka Gandhi’s Praise of Congress in Haryana
Thakur’s criticism of the Gandhi family came just one day after Priyanka Gandhi Vadra praised the Congress government in Himachal Pradesh during an election rally in Haryana. During the rally, Priyanka claimed that the Congress government had been putting money back into the pockets of the people through various welfare schemes. This statement, however, sharply contrasts with Thakur’s accusations that many promises have gone unmet. The discrepancy between Priyanka Gandhi’s comments and the realities on the ground, as presented by Thakur, has sparked a new wave of debate.
