Jagan Reddy Slams Naidu’s Seaplane Initiative
YSRCP chief and opposition leader YS Jagan Mohan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane demo flight, accusing Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of using such acts to deceive the public. Speaking out on social media and public platforms, Reddy claimed that Naidu has a history of presenting old ideas as innovative projects to create a façade of progress. The recent seaplane demonstration from Vijayawada to Srisailam was a prime example, he said.
Naidu’s ‘Avatars’ to Mislead the Public
According to Reddy, Naidu has been presenting himself in various ‘avatars’ for over two decades to convince people that he is responsible for modern innovations, including cell phones and computers. “Chandrababu Naidu will conjure up tricks and con people to ultimately cheat them. To this end, he will don any number of avatars. The recent seaplane visit from Vijayawada to Srisailam was a similar one,” stated Jagan Reddy, who criticized Naidu’s seaplane stunt in a post on X (formerly Twitter).
Seaplanes: Not a Novel Concept
Jagan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane idea by pointing out that seaplanes are not a new concept. Seaplane operations have existed for 114 years, he said, and India’s first attempt at such operations was initiated in Kerala in 2013. However, the Kerala project was later stalled due to various issues, including safety and operational challenges. Reddy also mentioned Gujarat’s attempt to run seaplanes in 2020, which encountered repeated stops for similar reasons.
Concerns Over Feasibility and Safety
Reddy questioned why other states, despite having suitable water bodies like dams and reservoirs, have not pursued seaplane projects if they were genuinely beneficial. Highlighting media reports, he noted that these operations often face significant challenges related to technical issues, passenger safety, and high operational costs. “Why aren’t other states taking up these so-called innovations? It’s because these projects are not as viable as they appear on paper,” Jagan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane demonstration, citing these reports.
Public Welfare Versus Publicity Stunts
Jagan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane demo as a publicity stunt, asserting that the real focus should be on building sustainable infrastructure that benefits the public. “Creating assets means increasing government revenue through projects like public ports and state-run medical colleges that provide free healthcare,” he argued. According to Reddy, initiatives that bolster public welfare far outweigh showy demonstrations with limited long-term impact.
The opposition leader emphasized that projects such as state-owned medical colleges and ports lead to genuine economic and social development. He accused Naidu of preferring eye-catching but insubstantial ventures, which do not address the pressing needs of the public.
History of Unsuccessful Seaplane Trials
Reddy cited instances of past seaplane trials that ended unsuccessfully to illustrate the flaws in Naidu’s recent move. Kerala’s initial effort was abandoned due to operational issues, and Gujarat’s seaplane service was paused multiple times due to technical difficulties and safety concerns. The seaplane projects struggled with maintaining passenger safety standards and faced prohibitive costs that rendered them impractical.
Jagan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane demonstration, asserting that replicating a failed model only serves to waste public resources. “These projects are short-lived, yet they are projected as groundbreaking by Naidu to create an illusion of progress,” he remarked.
Call for Meaningful Development
Reddy concluded by urging a shift in focus from headline-grabbing stunts to meaningful development that creates long-term value for the state and its residents. According to him, Jagan Reddy criticized Naidu’s seaplane demo to make a broader point: true leadership involves tangible improvements in healthcare, education, and infrastructure, not temporary spectacles.
