Left As Satish, Returned As Salim

In a remarkable story of loss, transformation and reunion, a man who disappeared from his home in Karnataka as a 12-year-old boy returned after 26 years — no longer known as Satish, but as Salim Abdul Ansari.

The emotional reunion has touched hearts across the country, highlighting the enduring bond of family and a mother’s unwavering hope.

Boy Who Followed A Circus

The story began in 2000, when a travelling circus troupe arrived in Dharmasthala, captivating a curious 12-year-old boy named Satish.

Unable to resist the excitement, Satish reportedly left home without informing his family and joined the circus troupe, beginning a life of travel and uncertainty.

Back home, his family searched tirelessly for him. For years, relatives made inquiries and hoped for answers, but as time passed, the chances of finding him seemed to fade.

Despite the uncertainty, Satish’s ageing mother never gave up hope. Family members said she regularly visited religious places, praying for her son’s safe return.

She reportedly made pilgrimages to Dharmasthala Temple, the Kateel Durga Parameshwari Temple and Panolibail Daivasthana, seeking divine blessings for her missing son.

A New Life In Maharashtra

After years of travelling with the circus, Satish eventually settled in Maharashtra, where he slowly rebuilt his life.

Over time, he converted to Islam and adopted the name Salim Abdul Ansari. He married a woman named Talima, and together they built a family with two children, Khushi and Azam.

Living away from Karnataka for more than two decades came with its own changes. According to reports, Salim gradually lost touch with his native languages, Tulu and Kannada, and now speaks only Hindi.

A Familiar Place Triggered Forgotten Memories

The reunion happened unexpectedly on June 9, when Salim visited Dharmasthala with friends from Maharashtra.

While walking through the temple town, he reportedly passed a location where the circus had once camped years ago. The familiar sight triggered memories buried for decades — childhood images, sibling names and memories of home suddenly returned.

He then sought help from local residents and shopkeepers, slowly retracing the path back to his family home.

Mother Recognised Him Instantly

When Salim finally arrived at his old house, his mother recognised him immediately despite the passage of nearly three decades.

Relatives described the emotional moment as unforgettable, with family members breaking down in tears after the long-awaited reunion.

Though language became an unexpected barrier — Salim now speaks only Hindi while his mother does not understand it — the family said words were unnecessary.

After spending a few emotional days with his family, Salim returned to Maharashtra, carrying with him a renewed bond with the home and mother he had left behind as a young boy chasing a circus dream.

The extraordinary story stands as a reminder that even after decades of separation, family ties can survive distance, time and transformation.
