Rahul Gandhi Accuses BJP of Promoting Drugs and Unemployment in Haryana
Rahul Gandhi’s Criticism of BJP’s Governance
In a fiery speech delivered on Thursday, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of failing the people of Haryana by promoting drug addiction, rising unemployment, and stifling growth in the state. Speaking at large public rallies in Mahendragarh and Nuh on the last day of the election campaign, Gandhi sharply criticized the BJP’s policies, stating that the ruling party has only brought drugs and unemployment to Haryana. He stressed that this election is not just a political contest but an ideological battle between Congress, which upholds harmony, and the BJP, which he accuses of spreading hatred.

Rahul Gandhi’s Commitment to Farmers
One of the central points in Rahul Gandhi’s speech was his pledge to provide a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) to Haryana’s farmers if Congress wins the upcoming state elections. According to Gandhi, the farming community is only asking for their rightful due, and they should not be treated differently from industrialists, who receive appropriate pricing for their products. He reiterated that the Congress party is committed to safeguarding farmers’ rights, and if voted into power, it will ensure immediate compensation to farmers in case of crop damage through insurance schemes. This legal guarantee of MSP would mark a significant policy shift that Congress plans to implement.
Concerns Over Drug Addiction in Haryana
Gandhi expressed deep concern over the rapid spread of drug addiction in Haryana under BJP’s rule. According to him, the state’s growing drug crisis is one of the many issues the ruling government has failed to address. Haryana now reportedly ranks among the highest in unemployment, inflation, crime, and drug addiction, issues that have worsened since the BJP came to power. Gandhi compared this state of affairs to the time when Congress governed Haryana, claiming that under Congress leadership, the state had been a model for progress that other states aspired to emulate.
Accusations Against BJP on Constitutional Integrity
In a broader critique of the BJP’s governance, Gandhi accused the party of undermining the Indian Constitution by stifling press freedom and weakening democratic institutions. He argued that the BJP and its ideological ally, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), are attempting to destroy India’s democratic framework. Although BJP leaders may not admit it publicly, Gandhi suggested that their actions, such as capturing Constitutional institutions, point to a systematic attack on the foundations of Indian democracy.
According to Gandhi, the people of India have a strong bond with the Constitution, and they will not tolerate any attempt to undermine it. He painted this election as a crucial fight to safeguard the nation’s democratic values, positioning Congress as the party that will protect the Constitution and restore public trust in government institutions.
Promises by Congress If Voted to Power
Gandhi also used the rally to outline the Congress party’s key promises to the people of Haryana. If elected, Congress plans to implement several welfare schemes, including:
- A monthly assistance of Rs 2,000 for women.
- Gas cylinders at Rs 500 to ease the financial burden on families.
- 300 units of free electricity per household.
- A pension scheme providing Rs 6,000 for the elderly, widows, and the disabled.
- Health insurance coverage worth Rs 25 lakh.
- Creation of two lakh jobs to tackle the growing unemployment crisis.
These promises, according to Gandhi, are aimed at addressing the various socio-economic challenges that Haryana’s people face. He assured the public that his party will fulfill all these promises once they come into power.
Warning Against Divisive Politics
Rahul Gandhi ended his speech by cautioning voters about what he termed as the B, C, D, and E teams of the BJP, suggesting that several smaller political parties contesting under different banners are, in fact, operating as proxies for the BJP. He urged voters to be wary of these parties, which he alleged are only working to fragment the opposition and weaken the chances of Congress in the upcoming elections.
Congress Leadership in Attendance
The rally also saw the presence of several key Congress leaders, including Congress general secretary K.C. Venugopal, former Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, and political activist Yogendra Yadav. These leaders have been working closely with Rahul Gandhi to galvanize support for Congress in Haryana, hoping to unseat the BJP and form the next government.
