Introduction to Telangana Skills University
The Young India Skills University (YISU), Telangana, is ready to commence its first set of courses from November 4, 2024. This launch is significant as it marks a new era in skill development for the state. Established under the Telangana (Public-Private Partnership) Act 2024, the university aims to empower the youth by providing high-demand skill sets, making them job-ready for various industries. Initially, YISU will function from two temporary campuses in Hyderabad—the Engineering Staff College of India (ESCI) and the National Academy of Construction (NAC).
Focus on Specialized Courses
YISU has launched three specialized schools for its initial courses:
- School of Logistics and E-Commerce
- School of Healthcare
- School of Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences
These schools aim to equip students with skills tailored to specific industries. The Logistics and E-Commerce courses include “Warehouse Executive” and “Key Consignor Executive” programs. For the Healthcare sector, YISU is offering the “Finishing Skills in Nursing Excellence” program. Finally, the Pharmaceuticals and Life Sciences school offers the “Pharma Associate Programme.”
The university has received backing from leading companies, and over 2,000 students will be trained in its first year.
Application Process and Course Details
Interested candidates are encouraged to apply through the university’s official website (https://yisu.in/) by October 29, 2024. The courses will start on November 4, 2024, and will be conducted temporarily at the ESCI and NAC campuses.
The government announced that major companies like Apollo, AIG, Lenskart, Flipkart, Amazon, All Cargo, Pro Connect, and O9 Solutions have partnered with YISU to offer these specialized courses.
This collaboration ensures that the Telangana Skills University not only offers academic knowledge but also aligns practical training with industry standards, making students job-ready immediately after completing their programs.
Government’s Support and Vision
Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has been instrumental in the establishment and promotion of YISU. In a meeting held on September 19, 2024, with the Telangana Young India Skill University Board (headed by prominent industrialist Anand Mahindra) and industry representatives, the Chief Minister emphasized the need to develop the university into the top skill institution in India.
The government has allotted 150 acres of land and allocated Rs 100 crore for the development of YISU. Additionally, the Chief Minister urged industrialists and blue-chip companies to create a Corpus Fund to support the university. The goal is to ensure that the Telangana Skills University becomes a leader in skill development, offering top-quality training and securing employment for youth.
Future Plans for Telangana Skills University
YISU has big plans for the future. In addition to the initial set of courses, the university plans to offer 17 specialized programs across multiple industries. These programs will include 3-4 year degree courses, one-year diploma programs, and 3-4 month certificate courses.
With the vision to train 20,000 youth annually, YISU aims to address the skill gap in various industries by producing qualified professionals. The launch of this university is a significant step toward fulfilling the state’s goal of being a hub for industrial talent and skilled manpower.
Industrial Partnerships and Benefits
The involvement of top companies like Amazon, Flipkart, Apollo, and Lenskart brings a practical edge to YISU’s curriculum. The partnerships allow students to gain firsthand experience with real-world applications. These companies will not only offer training but also help design course content to align with the latest industry needs, enhancing employability.
YISU’s collaborations are a testament to the university’s commitment to bridging the gap between traditional academic programs and the demands of modern industries. By offering courses like “Warehouse Executive”, “Pharma Associate Programme”, and “Finishing Skills in Nursing Excellence”, the university ensures that students are well-equipped to enter the workforce with confidence.

The Telangana Skills University is a game changer for both the state and its youth. By offering a wide range of industry-relevant courses and receiving substantial government and industrial backing, YISU is set to become one of the leading institutions in skill development. With the first set of courses beginning on November 4, 2024, YISU opens a new chapter in transforming education to meet the challenges of a fast-evolving job market.
