Ramdev Backs Kanwar Yatra Order
Haridwar: Yoga guru Ramdev on Sunday supported the order for all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route to display their owners’ names, asserting that transparency should not be an issue. “When Ramdev has no problem revealing his identity, then why should Rehman?” he remarked to reporters in Haridwar.
Ramdev’s comments follow a directive from Muzaffarnagar Police requiring hotels, restaurants, and dhabas along the Kanwar Yatra route to display signboards with their owners’ names, addresses, and mobile numbers. This order, which sparked controversy last week, was extended across Uttar Pradesh on July 19. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami noted that similar instructions are already in place in Uttarakhand.
Supporting both state governments’ decisions, Ramdev emphasized the importance of truth and honesty in one’s work, regardless of religious or class affiliation. “If the work is done with truth and honesty, then whether the person is a Hindu or a Muslim or belongs to any other religion or class, he should be proud of himself,” he stated. Ramdev condemned the fabricated narratives surrounding this issue and criticized the opposition parties’ political motives behind their protests. He also denounced the opposition to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling it condemnable.
“This kind of hatred and feeling of animosity, whether it is for the prime minister of the country, for Hindus, or for any other religion or caste, is not acceptable in any way. This is not the eternal culture or ‘sanskaar’ of India. The culture of India is based on non-violence, love, coexistence, harmony, and unity,” Ramdev added.
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand authorities announced on Sunday that the state police and administration have completed preparations for the Kanwar Yatra, set to start on Monday. Additional Director General of Police A P Anshuman and Inspector General of Police of Garhwal Karan Singh Nagnyal reviewed the arrangements for the Kanwar Mela. The fair area has been divided into 13 super zones, 31 zones, and 126 sectors for better management. In addition to state police, a bomb disposal squad, eight companies of paramilitary forces, and four teams of sniffer dogs will be deployed. Furthermore, 22 drone cameras and multiple CCTV cameras will monitor activities and ensure safety.
Each year, during the month of Saavan, devotees of Lord Shiva from states like Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Punjab, and Haryana travel to Haridwar and Rishikesh to collect holy water from the Ganga, carrying their Kanwads.
